About Me & My Art
my Background
I have always been a creative person and took art classes as far back as I can remember. Color in any shape or form has always intrigued me. It was incredibly exciting for me the first time I experimented with paint and discovered that I could create my own colors. Since then, color has always been a powerful and guiding principle in my work. In my painting, creating fields of color and exploring color gradation has been an integral part of the environments I imagine.
The painted work I consider to be primarily abstract but with infusions of reality such as the sky and the ocean. This helps to ground the work with the known world and connect the viewer with familiar elements as a means of entering the work. The smaller spherical images suggest pathways and journeys through the mysterious worlds. Geometry is critical to constructing an abstract framework in which to insert other more organic forms that often take on complimentary roles related to color and position.
The collage work tends to be more abstract in overall nature with touches of reality introduced by using imagery from books, magazines, maps and antique prints. Color is again important but explored through found materials. The collage work is often theme based around concepts such as geometry and outer space. These references are starting points for opportunities to create abstract worlds where familiar themes capture interest and then take the viewer through an adventure filled with mystery and intrigue. In all my work the idea of creating new and interesting worlds to engage with an audience is very important.
