#61 Cross for ella
I remained intrigued with the green velvet and had the scraps left from Green Velvet Cross. I also wanted to do a historical piece that told a story and chose the story of Queen Victoria’s granddaughter, Ella, who became a Russian princess and later a nun who was murdered during the Revolution. Bordered in black crepe, the piece is a study of red and green as well as a challenge to control the figurative imagery. The imagery is held back by the red cellophane, which creates an unusual sense of depth.
